green

if you know me, you know that I don't do green.
Teal, aquamarine, pale turquoise, even celadon, yes.
But not green.
It was time to get out of my comfort-colour zone so I put on a green warp
(I admit I couldn't resist and put some teal in it, just a little)
and wove it with a red/orange/pink weft.
It's so iridescent!

red and white

back to the loom - the weather has been so dark and gloomy that I needed a dose of bright colour.
this one I think I will keep - made with leftovers in tones of pink/red/orange - and white of course.
Isn't it nice when leftover yarn turns into something soft and wearable?

the last photo - a wooden mask with bright pink cheeks -  was from an exhibition on traditional wooden masks
of Krampus in Bolzano that we saw when we were there last time.
I just like the shape and colours of it - the ushers at the museum told us that some people refused to enter the rooms
where the collection of masks was on display because they found them frightening!

Here are my latest scarves - two colours for the warp and two colours for the weft -
resulting in four shades of cashmere/silk and linen.
These were the last two of the light ones;
now that Autumn is finally upon us I feel the need to be weaving something more substantial
in terms of yarn weight. Maybe something fluffy too...

I discovered Claire's beautiful blog - Clarabella -

I noticed that my holiday photos create little clusters
- so I have photo collections on silly subjects! - mostly details, as usual.

walnut brown

a few skeins I recently dyed with walnuts - one is pure cashmere,
one is a cashmere-silk blend and the third one is llama.
They were in the same dyebath but the colours are slightly different - interesting.

white and blue linen

this time I did it.

Cut and sewn - finished with bias tape.
I still have to wear it and test it, but so far I am happy.

prototype

I have been thinking about a gauzy cotton-linen top without much tailoring
and this is a prototype - just two squares sewn together with gaps for head and arms.

despite the lack of shape it's quite comfortable because the fabric is so light
...yet I am not completely satisfied with it...

There is something amazing about sewing your own handwovens and wearing them
but I am still sort of fighting against the idea of pattern cutting!

Lucca

a quick day trip to Lucca with my dad
- we even had time to climb on top of the amazing Torre Guinigi! -
